First Fawn of the Season
May 28, 2017
I have been seeing a lot of deer around my house lately and the does have been looking very pregnant! At sunrise every morning I take a look outside to see if I can spot a newborn fawn. I finally spotted one when I least expected it. I was on the phone last weekend, on Sunday afternoon, and just glanced out my window into the back yard. I did a double-take when I saw movement and I saw this little guy trotting up ahead of his mama. I was pretty shocked and my mom who I was on the phone with asked if I was ok. I said yes, hang on, and grabbed my camera and started snapping photos through my back window.
The fawn was about to come our right in front of me for a good view, but then I accidentally, very softly, tapped the window with my lens, trying to get up close to have the least amount of window interference. The little guy stopped right behind a tree when he heard the sound. He paused there for a while and I got of couple of shots of his face, then he turned around and headed back into the woods. My best image of this bunch was when he turned to look back as he was leaving. Wish I could've taken some shots without a window in between us, they would definitely have been better, however I've learned I can't open the door when deer are in the back yard or they'll be alerted and run away...I had to take what I could get.
